Marketing to Social Networks
54Marketing to social websites has never been more fierce. The buzz words I keep reading and hearing about in no particular order: Social media,Social networks, social websites, followed by the giants like Facebook,Myspace,Bebo,Friendster, and hi5 to mention a few.
What is your favorite social website? What feature do you enjoy best?
Then you have the social bookmarks. Here is what how Wikipedia defines it:
Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to share, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web resources. Unlike file sharing, the resources themselves aren't shared, merely bookmarks that reference them.
Descriptions may be added to these bookmarks in the form of metadata, so that other users may understand the content of the resource without first needing to download it for themselves. Such descriptions may be free text comments, votes in favor of or against its quality, or tags that collectively or collaboratively become a folksonomy. Folksonomy is also called social tagging, "the process by which many users add metadata in the form of keywords to shared content".
It's worth mentioning here that as previously stated in our hub pages, I have marketing experience off line and I was a newbie to marketing online. So the challenge to market on social networks was, and continues to be, a monumental task for an individual working alone.
The last three month have been grueling. There is a vast amount information you have to go through and things you have to try. It has been a lot of work but it has also been rewarding, enlightening, exciting, and ...well grueling lets leave that alone for the moment.
Its no secret that if you are going to market a business online you are going to have to be a part of the internet community. Three months ago I started writing hub pages about random things. The emphasis was to test some marketing ideas. Some worked very well others were less productive.
I even managed to get my first (and I hope) my last Google slap.I still haven't recovered fully. But that is going to be a topic for a future hub. Google does not play. Let me get back on point.
The idea was to learn marketing methods and use the information in a practical application.I needed to experience the hands on work in order to give advice. After tracking and reviewing the failure and success of the marketing method and tools used I would have information of value to share. I wanted something to showcase and to other newbies.
The core concept is that by solving problems that other marketers would encounter - would in turn solve my problem of creating a niche market for myself. Marketing to social websites will take many hubs, video tutorials and a list of tools you will have to down load so please understand why this hub was mostly an overview.
I would like to make one final point before I closing. For all you newbies out there you will love this series of hub pages to come because it will shave months off the process of marketing on social network sites. I am not a writer but I plan to map out strategies that are tested and true.
Ninety nine percent of what I plan to share is free. Some things you will just have to pay for.I hope you will come back regularly to get updates and read the new hubs to follow. If you are already marketing on social networks please comment on ups and downs you have experienced. Your comments are not only welcomed I encourage you to join in on any question and answer segment that might arise.
remember to answer the question I asked earlier...What is your favorite social website? What feature do you enjoy best?
